Bali in April
The hinge between seasons and the quiet bargain of the year: drying weather, green landscape, dry season light without dry season crowds.
April is the wet season leaving the room. Rain still happens, but the episodes shorten and space out, the light hardens toward dry season clarity, and the landscape holds its monsoon green for a few more weeks. The crowds of July are nowhere in sight.
Why April is undervalued
The travel press files April under shoulder season and moves on. In practice it combines the best of both halves: enough dryness for beach days and ridge walks, enough green for the rice terraces at Tegallalang and Sidemen to look the way the photographs promise, at prices closer to February than to August. Some years Nyepi falls in early April rather than March: the same planning note applies.
Coasts and water
The west coast surf begins its long dry season run as the trades establish. Visibility for snorkelling and diving improves through the month, and Amed starts rewarding the drive again.
Who April suits
Almost everyone, which is the point. If your dates are flexible and you want the island working on all fronts without the high season machinery, April and October are the two answers.
