Bali in December
Three quiet wet weeks, then one of the busiest and most expensive weeks of the year: December is two months wearing one name.
December splits in two, and pricing it requires knowing which half you are buying. Until the third week it is November continued: wet season rhythm, low crowds, soft prices. Then the Christmas and New Year surge arrives and turns the southern resorts into their busiest, most expensive week of the year.
The quiet December
Early month is genuinely underrated. The island is green and festive in its own right, hotels court the few guests around, and the rain keeps its afternoon habits. The interior, Ubud and Sidemen, wears the season best.
The loud December
From about the 20th, flights fill, rates double and triple in the south, and the beach clubs of Seminyak and Canggu run their biggest nights of the year. New Year's Eve on that coast is a full scale event: fireworks, traffic that stops moving, and a hard booking market for months in advance.
Who December suits
Early December suits the November traveller with a taste for festivity. The holiday fortnight suits those who choose it deliberately, book far ahead, and accept peak pricing under wet season skies. Choosing it by accident is the classic Bali planning error.
