Bali in November
The wet season returns to an empty island: hot, humid, dramatic skies, and the year's quietest month alongside February.

November holds a record no travel page prints: the hottest daily maxima of the Bali year, 31.6 °C on average, computed from thirty years of the airport's own records, in the month every brochure files under "rainy season, avoid". The second fact is stranger: November is nearly as empty as February, 483,364 arrivals in 2025, index 83, the year's second trough. The heat and the emptiness have the same cause, and both are tradeable.
The numbers, and where they come from
179 mm over 16 rain days in the only official normals for Denpasar, from BMKG via the WMO, half of January's total: the wet season returning, not yet arrived. Rain reported on about 10 days in an average modern November at the airport; temperature mean 28.2 °C, tied with April for the year's warmest, with the maxima peaking higher still. Hotels at 58 percent, and November shares with October the year's longest average stays at 2.94 nights, per the provincial statistics. Hot, humid, dramatic, empty: November in four measured words.
What November is actually like
The atmosphere loads all month: enormous afternoon skies, the year's most theatrical sunsets, the first proper storms, and heat that makes the pool and the hills equally persuasive. The landscape greens by the week. It is the year's best month for travellers who like weather as spectacle, and its worst for anyone whose plan is a sun lounger with a deadline. The long-stay figure is no accident: November rewards people with time to let the afternoon happen.
The sea
The waves enter their small season, the modelled floor of 1.4 m approaching, and the wind completes its swing to the west. The east coast takes over as the clean water side; the west coast begins its debris watch, whose documented season opens in December on Kuta's bay. Surf schools move their mornings east; snorkellers should too.
Who is actually here
Nobody, by Bali standards, and that is the sell: Europeans at their annual minimum, the French at one quarter of their August number, Australians present as always but between school holidays. The Russian season begins its build toward the January peak. November restaurants take walk-ins; November drivers negotiate; November guides have time to talk.
The calendar
Pagerwesi on 4 November 2026, then ceremonially quiet; no national holiday lands inside the month. In Galungan-cycle years like 2025, November carries the penjor fortnight, and the 210 day arithmetic brings the next November Galungan in 2028. For 2026, the month belongs to the weather.
Who November suits, and who it does not
Long-stay travellers, budget travellers, storm photographers, writers, and anyone who reads "hottest, emptiest, greenest" as an invitation. It does not suit tight one-week beach plans or humidity-averse constitutions: the year's warmest air over the returning rain is a sauna with scenery. Take it slow or take another month; November does not hurry for anyone.
