October mirrors April from the other side. The dry season winds down, humidity climbs back, and somewhere in the second half the first real storms usually announce the turn. Until they do, the island runs a quiet version of September.
The shape of the month
Early October is often indistinguishable from late September: calm seas, working surf, clear mornings. The build of heat and haze through the month is gradual, and the first downpours land as relief rather than disruption. Crowds sit at their post peak low, and prices follow.
Culture in the calendar
Ubud's festival season tends to land around now, the writers and readers festival above all, its dates moving year to year. It fills Ubud with talks and long tables, and it books the town solid for its span: a reason to aim at it or around it, depending on taste.
Who October suits
The April traveller in reverse: flexible, value minded, happy to trade a rising chance of afternoon rain for room and prices. Divers still get strong conditions, and the east coast keeps its calm well into the month.
