For many the best month of the year: dry season weather with the crowds visibly draining away week by week.
September may be the most repeated insider answer to the question this section exists for, and the reputation is earned. The dry season holds, the wind eases from its July peak, and the island empties in visible steps as the month runs.
Why it works
Every dry season asset stays open: west coast surf, calm crossings, clear sunrises on Kintamani, full diving visibility at Amed. What changes is everything around them. Tables appear in restaurants that were booked out in August, lineups thin, and the light stays hard and clean. Prices begin their slide toward shoulder season.
The fine print
Early September still carries peak season momentum, and the wind can still blow out afternoons in the first half. By the back half of the month the island is as balanced as it gets: dry, warm, calm and roomy.
Who September suits
Couples and travellers without school constraints, surfers who want the season without the contest, and photographers: the combination of dry season light and thinning crowds has no equal in the calendar. If you can choose any month, this is the safest excellent answer.
