Bali in August
Twin of July with one fixed date the whole country celebrates: Independence Day on the 17th, flags and ceremonies everywhere.
August continues the peak: same dry reliability, same wind, same full island. What it adds is the one date in the Balinese tourist year that never moves.
The 17th
Indonesian Independence Day falls on 17 August, fixed, nationwide. Expect flag ceremonies in every village, red and white bunting on every street, school parades, and climbing competitions up greased palm trunks. It is not a disruption to route around: it is one of the better days of the season to be here, and it costs nothing to watch.
Weather and water
The driest stretch of the year runs through August. Surf stays at full dry season quality on the west coast, crossings are calm, and the diving off Amed and Padangbai gets its best visibility. The highlands stay cool enough for real walking.
Reading the month
The first three weeks are peak in full; the final week begins to exhale as northern hemisphere schools resume. Prices and crowds follow with a small lag. The July advice holds throughout: early starts, near sleeping, quiet corners.
