Bali in June
Full dry season, the coolest stretch of the year begins, and the first wave of holiday crowds arrives late in the month.

June 2026 is the month the whole island dresses up: Galungan falls on Wednesday 17 June and Kuningan on Saturday 27 June, dates fixed in the Governor of Bali's own holiday circular, and for the ten days between them every street on the island is lined with penjor, the great arched bamboo poles that turn ordinary roads into processional avenues. 2026 has exactly one Galungan, the circular's list proves it, and it belongs to June.
The numbers, and where they come from
53 mm over 6 rain days in the only official normals for Denpasar, from BMKG via the WMO, the modern series agreeing at 47; rain reported on about 4 days in an average modern June at the airport. Temperature mean 27.2 °C and falling toward the August floor: the cool dry heart of the year begins. Arrivals 637,868 in June 2025, index 110, hotels at 65 percent, per the provincial statistics: high season arriving, not yet arrived.
Galungan, and what it means for a visitor
Galungan marks the visit of the ancestors and the victory of dharma; Kuningan closes the cycle ten days later. Practically: the penjor go up in the days before, family temples run ceremonies, many warungs close for Galungan day itself and reopen within a day or two, and the island is at its most photographed. The 210 day cycle that sets these dates is arithmetic this site publishes and checks; the next pair after June 2026 lands in January 2027. For a traveller the advice is one line: do not fight the ceremony days with a packed itinerary, walk into them.
What June is actually like
Full dry season with the year's gentlest temperatures. Everything outdoor runs at its best odds, from the Batur dawn to the east coast crossings, and the evenings in the hills ask for the year's first jacket. Late June brings the turn: the Australian school holidays open in the last week, dates set by the state departments themselves, and the arrival curve bends upward into July's peak. Early June and late June are different months wearing one name.
The sea
The swell reaches its modelled maximum band, around 2.2 m through June to August, offshore on the south west reefs: the Bukit at full power. The US and New Zealand markets both peak in June, and the lineups at Uluwatu hear the accents change.
The calendar
Pancasila Day on 1 June, 1 Muharram on 16 June, then the Galungan sequence: Penampahan on the 16th, Galungan the 17th, Umanis the 18th, Penampahan Kuningan the 26th, Kuningan the 27th, all dispensation days in Bali's circular. June 2026 is the most ceremonially dense month of the island's official year.
Who June suits, and who it does not
Travellers who want the dry season plus the festival calendar at full volume, photographers, and anyone able to arrive before the school holiday bend in the final week. It does not suit crowd avoiders who leave it too late: the first three weeks of June are among the year's best windows, the last week is July with an earlier date. Go early in the month, and let the penjor month have you.
